It's
All About Perception
by Dee Dee B.
Happiness
is entirely a state of mind. It's not dependent on anything that happens
or exists within our life. It's solely dependent on our mental
perceptions.
To
achieve a happy mental state, we must give up trying to control what cannot be
controlled. We must acknowledge that we
have limited control over most things. However, we do have control over
our reactions to
circumstances and situations. We can decide how to react to what happens to
us. We're in complete control of
our reactions. We can react positively and create the most positive outcome possible
from any negative event. Or we can
choose to despair over the hand we're dealt.
We can choose to see the best in the worst of situations – or we can see only the negatives.
We can
notice the
best in people, or we can focus on their deficits. We can focus on the most positive things in
our lives, or we can focus
on the negative.
Thus,
to be happy, we must choose to appreciate what is good in our life’s
situations, circumstances and those we share our life with.
And we must give up our attempts to control externals; it's necessary to
accept things (and people, and ourselves) the way they are. In summary, a key to happiness is to accept everything and everyone (including
ourselves) as they are, and
to appreciate what is good about the way things/people are.
Of course, improvements might be possible and sometimes should be made.
But where improvement isn’t immediately available or practical – or
won’t provide an enduring, true enhancement - it's best for us to deal with what
we’re
dealt, and enjoy what we have.
Choose to be happy! Why not? The alternative is to not be. Why choose that?
